We Get To Eat My Very Last Tomato!

I’m so happy – my very last tomato of the season survived and Mark brought it in the other day and there is nary a scratch on it. Or should I say, there is nary a nibble on it. Hey – “Nary a Nibble” – that’s a little cute. Like it would be cute to hear “Dr. Lightman” say it (from Lie to Me) – or no, would be adorable to hear “Ron Weasley” say it. I tell ya, I just love that kid! He is so cute!

“Oh bloody hell!”

I absolutely adore how he says that! And that is what I have felt like saying every time I’ve gone down to check on my tomato plant. Everyone’s been eating them but us! We just had two pretty little maters left, here recently, and I was so excited we would have at least two ‘fresh from the vine’ tomatoes before the long winter months before we can plant again. (No, Alabama winters aren’t long. I just look forward to spring in a big, bad way!!)

But did we get to eat those last two lovely tomatoes?

NO!

Some little buggies got to one of them! I had been using this ‘natural’ bug deterrent spray that I mixed together myself in the kitchen. I read about it in some magazine. It was supposed to be a bug deterrent and a fertilizer at the same time. Well – I don’t really know about the fertilizing – as I got such a late start with my tomatoes, but, it sure did not deter the little monsters from eating my tomatoes!! And I actually read about this ‘concoction’ (and made it) so long ago, that I don’t even remember what all was in it!

Maybe next season, instead of making my bug-slaying concoction, I should buy some – from some people who know better what they are doing! The Safer Brand is a ready-to-spray concentrate and it is organic bug patrol kills over 40 insects.

I had hoped to have homemade organic pest control from stuff around the house – that way I would know what exactly what was in it and I would feel that much better about having it in my yard and on my veggies, but, apparently that is just not going to work. So this would be the next best thing – and here is a great video that explains it even better.

After watching that video (besides all of the talk about ‘killing’ – yech!), I do feel a lot better about using the product. If I want to eat more tomatoes next year, I think I’ll definitely have to get some!

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have one, last, pretty, little tomato to eat! ;)

Fruits, vegetables, and flowers…oh my!

I have got to get my act together on my gardening plans! I always plan to start in March, but then, somehow, March turns into April, and well – you know how it goes.

And this year, with funding low, and with no car – it’s even harder! I have, however, found some great online deals that might just help me out!

There is this awesome online coupon from Spring Hill Nursery for $25 off a $50 order! That is totally amazing! That is such a great deal, I bet it won’t last very long!

And there is another good deal from Henry Fields Seed and Nursery Company for $10 off a $30 order! These deals are unbelievable – I always wonder how companies can run such big promotions.

Oh my gosh – Home Depot has some patio furniture 40-50% off!! That is a deal I would expect to find in August or something. And I have been wanting new patio furniture for a couple of years now! I would love to have a beautifully colorful garden blooming and sit with friends and family in the backyard, just enjoying a lazy summer day!

Ahh…one day…

I can’t wait to garden!

I’ve just been getting my hands dirty and it feels so great! It is so amazing to me how messing around with dirt makes me feel sooooooooooooooooooooo much better!

I have a lovely officemate, he looks just like this:
My wonderful PEACE LILY that my precious sister-in-law, who happens to be my best friend, and the coolest chic ever, got me on the day my precious Rosco passed to his next adventure.

Isn’t he precious? Poor baby – he was so miserable in the end…

Anyway, I am getting way off the subject at hand, here. So my sweet Peace Lily has had a dirt issue, not sure how it happened – but, he doesn’t have enough dirt – it was eerily low. And I had been promising him all week that I would go take some of the good dirt from one of my pots outside and fill him back up. Here it is Friday….. lol

So I went out to my gardening supplies, and just being out there with my tools, and digging in the dirt was so awesome – it reawakens something in me.

I brought him some dirt – filled him up good, gave him some more water – and he is doing great!

He usually looks so good, people think he is plastic – hehehe I’ll get him back there in no time. The move has been hard on all of us, plants included. LOL

And now it’s time to think about gardening at my new home – where will I do it? Our lot is freaking HUGE!!!! Seriously! It’s crazy.

If I do a ‘real’ garden – last year I gardened in pots because of the move – I will have to have Mark build the structure, and we will have to buy gobs of dirt. And I need to get started pretty soon here, and I think ‘pretty soon here’ – we won’t have the money for all of that.

Not to mention, we are in need of a COMPLETE landscaping overhaul, and I shudder to think that I would have this beautiful, flourishing garden, and Mark and his uncle decide to do the landscaping and …. *eeks* I can’t even ’say’ it!

So, I think, perhaps, we’ll go with pots again – which really seems a shame, given that I am living on the largest piece of property I’ve ever lived on!

My mother sent me a bunch of flower bulbs (yea!!) and I know I at least want to do tomatoes and cucumbers – I’m getting really good at those two…hehe

So, anyway, it’s time to start thinking about all of that again, and time to start getting dirt up under all my fingernails again – and I’m just excited about it!

So I rambled on and on….
