Yellow snow?! Ewwww! Ok, so it’s not exactly snow, but, that is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of trying to describe what’s floating around in our air and blanketing our cars right now!
It’s pollen! Massive, massive amounts of pollen!
It’s allergy central around here! It’s unbelievable!
I have never seen anything like this in my life! And since we are new to Alabama, I don’t know if this is typical, or some new weather issue. Things have been a little strange around the earth here lately!
And my brother back home in Texas said that the allergies are worse than ever this year, but, he said this long before the yellow snow arrived, so I don’t know if they are getting it, too - or not.
I am telling you, it is crazy!! Mark is washing the car every day! And even for his Type A, let’s-keep-everything-clean-all-the-time personality - that’s bad! He’s never washed a vehicle on a daily basis before!
I was driving around town the other day and I saw one car, that apparently hadn’t been driven in a couple of days, and it was completely COVERED in yellow!
My dog actually slipped on the porch, because the yellow powder was so thick!
This is weird, ya’ll! I want to know if ya’ll are experiencing any of the ‘yellow powder phenomenon’, and if you are, is it typical?
Sound off - please!!

1I know this will seem odd being in the high desert with nothing but cactus, but we too are experiencing this. It got unseasonably warm here for about two weeks, so I opened up all my windows in my house. After about three days I noticed my book case covered in this yellow powder! I thought, WTH is this? Then I started noticing it on our cars, our mailbox, our gas grill. It’s EVERYWHERE! I guess with civilization in the high desert comes flowering trees.

2That is strange! So I’m in my mountain-y lush green surroundings being pollenated to death - and you, in your barren, desert-y surroundings being pollenated to death!
Crazy!
It’s been supposed to rain at least five different days here lately, too - and, of course, hasn’t!
We’re doomed to live with the ‘yellow snow’!!

3I’ve never heard of pollen snow! Here In Michigan, we get days where all the cottonwood trees release these little white puffs, and they swirl around through the air covering everything. And in the fall we get the “helicopter” seed pods when the leaves fall off the trees.

4Yep, yep, yep! I know that spring snow from the cottonwoods - so pretty!!! (And sooooooo messy!)
and the helicopters - I actually meant to blog about those yesterday!
Perhaps I shall get to it today…

5Yellow snow is an annual phenomenon here in Cary, NC. I’m from Huntsville, AL and don’t remember it being so intense there as here, but there are more pine trees around here. When I cut the grass yesterday, the lawnmower reminded me of Pigpen - stirring up yellow pollen everywhere I went.
The dog slipped? My car slipped when I pulled into a parking space yesterday.
Last weekend, I set out some baby toys to dry, and in 3 hours, they were coated.

6Hi Lisa,
I read your comment in James Jordan’s blog and I see you have posted the “Think Spring” Pic.
I have “springtipped” your Yellow Snow Post in my blog: http://rosewoman.blogspot.com/search/label/womenbloggers
You might be interested to learn that I have just started a blog Party using James’s “Think Spring” pic!
It involves writing a spring related entry in your blog and linking to 3 other blogs with spring related entries.
So it is a combination of meme and blogtipping.
Interested?

Suggested rules for the “Think Spring” meme:

By the way, you will find your blog there, I have added you to the “Provisional Blog Roll” of people that have already added James’s pic!
Hope to meet you at the party!
